How this tool works

Target = monthly essential expenses × your chosen months of coverage. The gap is the target minus existing savings, floored at zero. Time is the gap divided by your monthly savings, rounded up to whole months.

Try an example

With essential expenses of 2,000 and six months of coverage, the target is 12,000. If you have 3,000 saved and add 300 monthly, reaching it takes 30 months without interest.

Questions & assumptions

How many months should I choose?
